Oryza occurs as genus of 15-20 coinage of grasses in the subfamily Oryzoideae, native to tropical & semitropical regions of Asia and Africa. It is tall wetland grasses, growing to 1-Two m tall; a genus includes each annual and perennial species.

Of these coinage, Rice (O. sativa), occurs as food crop of major spherical importance.
